Indicator and warning lights
1 timing toothed belt indicator of
the car's fascia
For some imported vehicles with timing toothed belt transmission and overhead camshaft, the service life of engine timing toothed belt is generally limited (about 10 million km), and it must be replaced at that time. In order to enable the maintenance personnel to replace the timing toothed belt on time, the timing belt service life indicator "t.belt" is set on the instrument panel. The following points should be paid attention to in use.
(1) When the indicator light is on, immediately observe the odometer. If the accumulated driving mileage reaches or exceeds 10000 km, the timing toothed belt must be replaced, otherwise the timing toothed belt may be broken and the engine cannot work normally.
(2) After replacing the new timing toothed belt, remove the rubber stopper outside the reset switch on the odometer panel, and press the reset switch inside with a small round rod to turn off the timing toothed belt indicator. If the indicator does not turn off after operating the reset switch, the reset switch may fail or the circuit is grounded, and the fault shall be repaired and eliminated.
(3) After replacing the new timing toothed belt, remove the odometer and adjust all readings on the odometer to "0".
(4) If the indicator light is on before the vehicle has been driven for 10 million km, press the reset switch to turn off the indicator light of timing toothed belt.
(5) If the timing toothed belt is replaced before the indicator light is on, remove the odometer and reset the interval counter to make the interval meter in the odometer
Align the zero position of the counter gear with its transmission gear.
(6) If only the odometer is replaced instead of the timing toothed belt, set the counter gear to the position of the original odometer.
2 exhaust temperature warning lamp of
the car's fascia
Due to the installation of three-way catalytic converter on the exhaust pipe of modern cars, the exhaust temperature has increased, but too high exhaust temperature is easy to cause damage to the three-way catalytic converter. Therefore, this kind of cars are equipped with exhaust temperature alarm device. When the exhaust temperature alarm light is on, the driver should immediately reduce the speed or stop. After the exhaust temperature drops, the alarm light will be activated It will go out automatically (but the fused exhaust temperature alarm light will stay on if it is not adjusted or repaired after it is on). If the exhaust temperature alarm light does not go out, find out the cause and remove the fault before driving.
3.brake warning lamp of the car's fascia
The brake warning lamp is red with a "!" symbol in the circle. If the red brake warning lamp is on, it indicates that the brake system has the following conditions:
(1) The friction plate of the brake is seriously worn;
(2) The brake fluid level is too low;
(3) The parking brake has been tightened (the parking brake switch is closed);
(4) In general, if the red brake warning lamp is on, the ABS warning lamp will be on at the same time, because ABS cannot play its due role in case of failure of conventional braking system.
4 anti lock brake warning lamp
The anti lock brake warning lamp is yellow (or amber) with the word "ABS" in the circle.
For vehicles equipped with anti lock braking system (ABS), turn the ignition switch to "on" When the ABS alarm lamp on the instrument panel is on for 3 s and 6 s, this is the ABS self-test process, which is a normal phenomenon. As soon as the self-test process is over, if the ABS is normal, the alarm lamp will go out. If the ABS alarm lamp continues to turn on after the self-test, it indicates that the ABS electronic control unit has detected a fault that is not conducive to the normal operation of the anti lock braking system (for example, when the vehicle speed exceeds 20 km / h, the wheel speed sensor signal is abnormal), or EBV (electronic brake force distribution system) It has been closed. In this case, if you continue to drive, because the function of the braking system has been affected, the electronic braking force distribution system will no longer adjust the braking force of the rear wheels. During braking, the rear wheels may lock in advance or swing the tail, so there is a risk of accidents. You should repair it.
When the vehicle is running, the ABS alarm light flashes or is always on, indicating that the degree of fault is different. Flashing indicates that the fault has been confirmed and stored by ECU; normally on indicates that the ABS function is lost. If the vehicle braking performance is found to be abnormal during driving, but the ABS alarm light is not on, it indicates that the fault lies in the mechanical and hydraulic parts of the braking system, not in the electronic control system.
5 drive anti slip control indicator
The driving anti slip control system (ASR) indicator light has a "△" symbol in a circle.
For example, FAW Bora 1.8T car has the function of driving anti-skid control. When the car accelerates, if ASR detects the trend of wheel slip, it will reduce the output torque of the engine by intermittently turning off fuel injection and delaying the ignition advance angle, so as to adjust the traction and prevent the driving wheel from slipping.
ASR can work together with ABS in any speed range. When the ignition switch is turned on, ASR is automatically enabled, which is the so-called "default selection". The driver can manually cancel the driving anti-skid control through the ASR button on the instrument panel. When the ASR indicator light on the instrument panel is on, it indicates that ASR has been turned off.
In the following cases, the ASR system should be turned off if a certain degree of wheel slip is required.
(1) The wheels are fitted with snow chains.
(2) Cars drive on snow or soft roads.
(3) The car is stuck somewhere and needs to move back and forth to get out of trouble.
(4) When the car starts on a ramp, but the adhesion of one wheel is very low (for example, the right tire is on ice and the left tire is on dry road).
If the above situation does not exist, do not turn off the ASR. Once the ASR indicator lights up during vehicle driving, it indicates that the electronic control unit (ECU) When the drive anti-skid system has been turned off, the driver will feel the heavy steering wheel handling. According to the working principle of ABS / ASR system, when the system fails, the transmission of wheel speed sensor signal will be interrupted, so that other control systems on the vehicle that need wheel speed signal to work normally (such as steering power system) At the same time, it is affected. Therefore, the heavy steering wheel will disappear only after the ASR fault is eliminated.
6 airbag indicator
There are three display methods for the airbag system (SRS) indicator, one is the word "SRS", the other is the word "air bag" (Toyota produced before August 1992), and the third is the figure "airbag protects passengers".
The main function of SRS indicator is to indicate whether the airbag system is in normal state, and it also has the function of fault self diagnosis. If the SRS indicator is always on after the ignition switch is turned to the on (or ACC) position, and the fault code is displayed normally, it indicates that the battery (or the standby power supply of SRS electric control unit) The voltage of is too low, but the SRS electronic control unit does not compile this fault code into memory during design, so there is no fault code display. When the power supply voltage returns to normal for about 10s, the SRS indicator will automatically go out.
Because SRS is not used at ordinary times, it will be scrapped once used, so the system does not show fault phenomenon in the use process like other systems on the vehicle. It must rely on the self diagnosis function to find out the cause of the fault. Therefore, the indicator light and fault code of SRS have become the most important source of fault information and diagnosis basis.
7 hazard warning lights
The hazard warning lamp is used to warn other vehicles and pedestrians in case of major vehicle failure or emergency. The expression of hazard warning signal is that the front, rear, left and right turn signals flash at the same time.
The hazard warning lamp is controlled by an independent switch and generally shares a flasher with the turn signal lamp. When the hazard warning lamp switch is turned on, the turn signal lamp circuits on both sides are turned on at the same time, and the front, rear, left and right turn signals and the turn signal lamps on the instrument panel flash at the same time. Because the hazard warning lamp circuit connects the flasher with the battery, the hazard warning lamp is turned off at the ignition switch It can also be used for off and parking.
8 battery indicator
The indicator light that shows the working state of the battery. It lights up after the switch is turned on and goes out after the engine is started. If it does not light up or remains on for a long time, check the generator and circuit immediately.
9 fuel indicator
The indicator light indicating that the fuel is insufficient. When the light is on, it indicates that the fuel is about to be exhausted. Generally, the vehicle can travel about 50km from the light to the fuel is exhausted.
10 washer fluid indicator
The indicator light that shows the stock of windshield washer fluid. If the washer fluid is about to run out, the light will be on to prompt the owner to add washer fluid in time. After adding washer fluid, the indicator light will go out
11electronic throttle indicator
This lamp is commonly seen in Volkswagen models. When the vehicle starts self inspection, the EPC lamp will be on for several seconds and then go out. In case of failure, this lamp will be on and should be repaired in time
12 front and rear fog lamp indicators
This indicator is used to display the working conditions of the front and rear fog lamps. When the front and rear fog lamps are turned on, the two lamps will be on.
13 direction indicator
When the steering light is on, the corresponding steering light flashes at a certain frequency. When the double flashing warning light button is pressed, the two lights light up at the same time. After the steering light goes out, the indicator light goes out automatically
14 high beam indicator
It displays whether the headlamp is in the high beam state. Normally, the indicator is off. It lights up when the instrument panel high beam is turned on and the high beam momentary lighting function is used
15 seat belt indicator
The indicator light showing the status of safety belt will light up for several seconds according to different models, or it will not go out until the safety belt is fastened. Some cars will also have an audible prompt
16 O / D gear indicator
The O / D gear indicator is used to display the working status of over drive overdrive gear of automatic gear. When the O / D gear indicator flashes, it indicates that the O / D gear has been locked.
17 internal circulation indicator
The indicator is used to display the working status of the vehicle air conditioning system, which is off at ordinary times. When the internal circulation button is turned on and the vehicle turns off the external circulation, the indicator will light up automatically.
18 width indicator
The width indicator is used to display the working state of the vehicle's width indicator. It is off at ordinary times. When the width indicator is on, the indicator will turn on immediately
19 VSC indicator
The indicator light is used to display the working status of vehicle VSC (electronic body stability system), which mostly appears on Japanese vehicles. When the indicator light is on, it indicates that the VSC system has been turned off
20 TCS indicator
The indicator is used to display the working status of the vehicle TCS (traction control system), which mostly appears on Japanese vehicles. When the indicator is on, it indicates that the TCS system has been turned off
